This one was a long time coming. I wrote it years ago after spending two months in Zimbabwe at a hospital clinic then going through Mozambique and South Africa. Upon returning to Canada, I read "What is the What" by Dave Eggers and it ultimately culminated in this song.
Optimistic song about increasing awareness & acknowledging our individual and collective responsibility, as well as interconnectedness, to make the world a better place, especially in the face of atrocity (child war soldiers) and adversity (discrimination, pandemics, hardship), we are all one.

lyrics
You sigh but I pretended nothing
What you see and don’t act to me
It’s crazy
And you say it’s the plague
Look around and my head spins ‘cause
Don’t know what I’m supposed to do from here
And I’ll take it every moment I can
To stay in the moment, if i can, if i can
Chorus:
You and I are walking on water
But I can’t see the light of morning through the warning signs
Don’t walk away, don’t walk away
This time with open eyes
Had the time to gauge the situation
Get comfortable we might be here awhile
Do you know who you are these days,
These days, oh my
I know there’s so much brutality
Just a child, bearing war’s weaponry
We make lighter guns so our children can carry them
Chorus:
Here we are laughing ‘cause we just don’t care
Or we do but this is just how life ain’t fair
It’s so much easier to say it’s over there
Hold onto our lies, and live our pretty lives, but now with open eyes
Chorus:
